UniTantrix® Microcarriers
Tantti's UniTantrix® Microcarriers are macroporous, dissolvable microcarriers designed specifically for the growth of anchorage-dependent cells in a dynamic mixing environment. UniTantrix® is valued for its uniform porosity and very high interpore connectivity, resulting in a surface area of up to 6000 cm2/g and cell growth density higher than that of competitors’ microcarriers products. Also, the denatured collagen-based material that comprises UniTantrix® provides high cell attachment rates, growth yield, and cell viability. As a result, UniTantrix® is the most efficient and cost-effective solution for cell culture expansion across a wide range of applications including production of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines, cell and gene therapy, as well as cultured meat.
Growth of Cell and Biologic Therapies Increasingly Reliant on Advances in Microcarriers Technology
The growing prevalence of cell-based therapy, such as stem-cell therapy (including hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation), as well as the growing need for vaccine production worldwide, are among the key trends driving rapid growth in demand for the use of microcarriers. According to Reports and Data, the microcarriers market is expected to achieve revenue of nearly US$2.9bn in 20281, representing an annual growth rate of 10.5% over a 2020-2028 forecast period.
Specifically designed for the attachment, growth and expansion of cells in a mixing environment (e.g., bioreactors), microcarriers are uniquely suited for both scale-up and large-scale cell production with key attributes being cost efficiency, scalability and ease of use. Optimizing cell yield, in particular, is critical to the production of large quantities of cells in a bioreactor vessel to ensure cost and time efficiency. As a result, the utility of microcarriers in novel therapeutics will be a key driver of its growth going forward.

Product Overview
UniTantrix® Microcarriers are manufactured using Tantti's patented technology, which creates a unique pore structure with very high pore connectivity and surface area. The highly connective and uniform pores allow cells to adhere, proliferate, migrate and differentiate within the Microcarriers while simultaneously enabling the exchange of nutrients, oxygen and metabolic waste. It is manufactured with denatured collagen or other animal component-free materials without the use of chemical crosslinkers, which provides a number of advantages including flexible mechanical properties and physical stability, both of which reduce the amount of shear stress experienced by the cultured cells. In addition, the collagen is readily dissolved with enzymes, facilitating a cell recovery rate of nearly 100%.
